The Anandacandra Stone Inscription

Myanmar - Department of Archaeology and National Museum. Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar

Story

The “Anandacandra Stone Inscription” contains important evidence of the early history of Rakhine, especially from late B.C. to eight century A.D. It is significant because there were no contemporary Indian inscriptions that mentioned the reigning years of kings and queens in Sanskrit, which is a rare piece in the world. The three different faces inscribed in Sanskrit with three different North Indian scripts belong to three different eras which are separated from each other by a lapse of 200 years.
